Challenge #23 Song Challenge
Jul. 2nd, 2012 11:36 pmFor the challenge, I looked at 10 different pairings - either relationships or friendships in NCIS and NCIS:LA - 5 from each show. There's are vague mentions from things on the shows, and a slight spoiler from the NCIS season finale - that story has a spoiler warning in it's title.
Title: Together
Pairing: Tony/Ziva
Song: Come Over – Kenny Chesney
It was done. Over. He wasn’t going to call her. They had decided to call it off before they both got hurt. But that decision didn’t keep his bed from feeling cold without her. And those words weren’t going to wrap their arms around him in the middle of the night and whisper secrets to him.
It was his fault. He knew that. He was the one that put a stop to things before they go to serious. He was the one that had gotten cold feet over attempting a relationship. He was the one that let his fear get the best of him, and when she told him what she wanted, a chance at a real relationship; he had been the one to turn her down.
He knew that she realized he was lying when he said it was only sex and he didn’t want to complicate it. He knew that she saw right through all the words and excuses. He knew she saw the truth. That he was too scared to try. They were both broken, and he was scared that he would only hurt her more. She had tried to argue that she was better with him, but his fear had gotten the best of both of them.
Their unofficial breakup has only happened hours ago, and he had promised that he wouldn’t call. But as his fingers wrapped around his phone, he could stop himself from sending a text. After all, that wasn’t the same as calling.
We don't have to miss each other. We don't have to fix each other. Just come over.
Tony closed the phone and sat it on the bed beside him. With a sigh he rolled over, and tried to sleep.
When the bedroom door opened ten minutes later, he felt her slip into the bed beside him, and wrap her arms around him. Neither spoke, but he knew he didn’t have to explain things to her. Being alone was worse that working through anything that came their way together.
Title: Best Friends
Pairing: Eric/Nell
Song: Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? – Thompson Square
Nell stared impatiently at Eric as he shuffled his feet. With a sigh she turned her back on him and slipped her key in the door.
She had only agreed to the date so he would leave her alone. She hadn’t expected to have fun, but she had. She had forgotten that Eric could be fun to be around when he wasn’t obsessing over how to talk her into taking their friendship to the next level.
Everything had been going fine. Dinner has been filled with laughter, and the concert afterwards was beautiful. He has been a perfect gentleman, opening doors for her, and making her feel at ease. Then halfway home, it had all gone downhill. He froze up, and the closer they got to her apartment, the quieter and stiffer he had become. When he walked her to her door, she couldn’t wait to get rid of him. He was suddenly acting like a teenager on his first date, instead of the guy that had been slowly sweeping her off her feet all evening.
As she swung her door opened, she turned back to him. “Are you gonna kiss me or not?”
He stared down at her feet, not answering.
“Are we gonna do this, or what?” she asked. "Because you're about to miss your shot."
Her hands rested on her hips as she stared at him. When he didn’t acknowledge her question, she turned around and stepped into her apartment. She started to close the door when he stuck his hand out and stepped into the doorway.
Before she could say anything, he pulled her to him, and lowered his lips to hers. Her lips melted against his, and after a few moments, he pulled away.
“So,” he said slowly.
“Yeah,” she said softly.
“I felt …” he trailed off and shook his head.
She laughed. “Me either.”
“You’re still my best friend, Nell,” Eric said with a grin.
She nodded. “Same here.”
Title: Win Your Heart
Pairing: Abby/McGee
Song: Over – Blake Shelton
They had danced around the subject for years. He had always knows since the first time he talked to her that she was going to be his one and only. Even after it didn’t work out, his belief didn’t waver. As the years stacked up they both dated other people, but it always came back to they. If one was single and the other was seeing someone, or if someone was interested in one of them and the other saw it, the jealousy was palpable.
Enough was enough. Something had to change, and it had to change immediately. Either they were going to make it work, or he needed to put some distance in their friendship and move on with his life.
“Tell me what I’ve got to do to win you over,” he said one even as they were in her lab waiting on a fingerprint search.
She turned to him, her pigtails swinging. “What?”
“You’re my best friend, and we’ve been dancing around this for years. What can I do?” he asked quietly. “Because I can’t keep pretending that you don’t mean everything to me.”
“Oh,” she said softly. She shook her head. “You’re my best friend, Timmy. But I don’t know how to answer that.”
“Have you thought about it?” he asked.
Abby nodded but didn’t answer his question. Instead she turned back to the computer screen and watched the search.
“Abbs?”
She shook her head.
“Talk to me Abbs,” he said softly. “Should I forget it and find someone else to settle down with?”
“No,” she whispered.
“No, forget it, or no don’t settle?”
She looked up at him and bit her lip. “No, don’t settle.”
Title: Love Me
Pairing: Kensi/Deeks
Song: Wanna Make You Love Me - Andy Gibson
If he could make her love him, he would. After ever case, after everything that would happen between them, after undercover assignments and cases that brought them closer their pasts, he always thought that this would be the moment.
It never was.
She always pushed him away, and left him feeling like he would never be enough for her. This time he wasn’t taking no for an answer. This time, he was telling her how he felt regardless of what she said or did. And after she knew, it would be up to her. But he was tired of being silent.
“Can we talk, Kens?” he asked as the credit started to roll.
“I’m tired, Deeks. Maybe tomorrow,” she said, looking away from him.
He shook his head. “It can’t wait.”
“Yes it can,” she answered.
“I’m tired of waiting, Kens. I want to be everything you need. And you keep shutting me down when I say it, but that isn’t going to change things.”
“Shut up, Deeks,” she said as she stood. “Just stop talking, and go home.”
“No. I try so hard Kens. I try to be the one who makes you laugh and makes you proud. I want to be the one that you come to at the end of the day when you’re excited or sad. I want to be the one that you show off to your friends and they’re jealous over what you have. I want to make you love me,” he said softly.
She bit her lip and looked at him. “I already do.”
Deeks couldn’t help but grin. “What was that, princess?”
“You heard me, Deeks. I’m not repeating myself,” Kensi said as she turned away. “Now, I’m going to bed. I suggest you do the same.”
Deeks watched for a moment as she walked down the hall to her bedroom. He crossed the room and made sure her front door was locked before following her down the hall. It wasn’t quite an invitation, but he would take what he could get.
She was sitting on her bed when he opened the door, and when she held her hand out to him, he grinned and stepped into the room. It would change everything, and he couldn't wait.
Title: Last First Kiss
Pairing: Nell/Callen
Song: History in the Making - Darius Rucker
Callen lay back on the beach blanket, and smiled up at the star filled sky. He felt Nell shift closer to him, her head resting on his chest. He quietly wrapped his arm around her, and gently ran his fingers down her arm.
The night had been perfect. Dinner and a concert, followed by a walk on the beach. They had been lying on the blanket he had pulled from his trunk for a couple of hours. He has listened as she talked about her childhood, and when he shared a little bit about his own, she hadn't judged or pitied him. He was comfortable with her, and for the first time in a long time, he felt at peace. He could stay here until the sun came up with her in his arms. This was a moment that he never wanted to forget.
"I think I like you," Nell said softly.
He turned his head to smile at her. "I think I like you too."
"I think that scares me," she said.
"Why?" Callen asked.
"Because now everything changes," she answered in a whisper.
"This could be one of those memories," he said with a grin. "That we hold onto, and one day tell our kids about."
She laughed lightly. "Kids?"
"Maybe," he answered. "Maybe tell them about our last first kiss."
"Aren't you rushing things?" she asked, sitting up.
He sat up and wrapped his arms around her pulling her close. "We've been dancing around this for over a year. Even Kensi and Deeks are tired of watching this thing between us."
"Kensi keeps telling me that you and I are history in the making," Nell said with a grin.
"I want to give this a try," Callen said softly. "I want to try to have a real relationship, based on the truth, and I want that with you. Come on, what if this was that moment, that chance worth taking?"
Nell shifted until she was looking into his eyes. He held his breath as she considered his words. He was serious, and he wanted her to see that. He cared for her more than he thought he ever would, and he knew that it wouldn't be easy, but he could see her being the one he fell asleep beside, and woke up cuddled against. When she finally nodded, he couldn't help but grin.
As he leaned down and gently kissed her, he knew Kensi had been right. He and Nell were history in the making.
Title: What We've Been Through
Characters: Jimmy, Tony
Song: You Don't Know Her Like I Do - Brantley Gilbert
Tony wasn’t surprised when Jimmy slid onto the barstool beside him. He’d have been surprised if McGee had come. McGee tended to side with Ziva, against Tony, and while he knew that McGee meant well, dealing with drunk Tony wasn’t something that he did. Jimmy on the other hand had always been like his shadow. He stood back a little, watched, and waited. And when he was needed, he was there without question.
“She’ll be back,” Jimmy said calmly as he turned to Tony. “She’ll come back and everything will be fine.”
Tony shook his head. “You don’t know her like I do. She won’t be back.”
“She knows you love her, and she knows that you didn’t do anything wrong. Just give her some time,” Jimmy said. “She’s just a little emotional right now. Once she calms down, she’ll be back.
“She’s pregnant,” Tony said. “She’s not emotional, she’s pregnant. And it’s my fault.”
“It’s a baby,” Jimmy said softly. “It isn’t something that you blame someone for. It’s a living person that you should celebrate.”
“She doesn’t want it,” Tony said bluntly. “We talked about it when we started dating, and I know she doesn’t want it. She’s mad at me now, because I’ve put her in a situation.”
“Did she tell you that?” Jimmy asked.
Tony shook his head. “No. She told me, and I asked her what she wanted to do about it.”
“And then?”
He shrugged. “And then we fought. And she said she was leaving and she’d raise it by herself.”
“So she’s keeping it?” Jimmy asked.
Tony shrugged. “I guess.”
“Do you want to be a dad?”
“I never thought about it,” he said. “She said no kids, and I’ve never thought about what kids would mean.”
Jimmy nodded. “When Breena told me that she was pregnant, I was scared. But now, I can’t imagine life without our daughter.”
“You don't know what we've been through,” Tony said shaking his head. “She’s my best friend, and she trusted me to not get us into this situation.”
“And she’ll trust you to be there with her through all of it,” Jimmy said with a nod.
“And I would be. If I knew where she was.”
Jimmy nodded. “What if I told you where she was?”
“How would you know that?” Tony asked.
“Because she’s with Breena and Tabby at my house. And she may have told me to bring you over if you were done being an insensitive hog.”
Tony smiled. “That sounds like her.”
Jimmy nodded and slipped from his barstool. “You coming?”
Tony nodded. “I’m coming.”
Title: Moment
Pairing: Jimmy/Breena
Song: Lost in This Moment With You - Big and Rich
*Spoilers through Season 9 finale
He was lost in the moment. He knew that somewhere in DC his friends were facing one of the worst cases that they'd ever had. And he knew that as soon as the ceremony was over, he'd be on a plane back to help them. But right now, it was about he and Breena. And it was about the few close friends and family that had gathered with them, some only halfway dressed for the occasion, and a few still in their pajamas.
As he looked into her eyes, and heard her recite the vows that she had written for him, he tried to hold back his tears. He still couldn't believe that this beautiful woman was about to become his wife. He still couldn't believe that this whole day wasn't just a dream.
"And now, Jimmy has a few words he would like to say to Breena."
He heard the pastor speak, and he nodded. Words. He had a lot of words, and none of them were enough.
" Since the first day I met you, I knew that you were the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And now that we're here, I am completely consumed with love for you. My feelings so absolute, there's no doubt. I've waited my whole life for this, and now I'm watching all my dreams come true. I promise to love you more every day that we're together, and I know that what I feel for you now is only a portion of what I will feel for you in the future. You are my world, and you are my one and only. I feel privileged to be loved by you, and I will spend my life, proving that I am worthy of that love."
He heard sniffles in the audience, but all that mattered was the smile on Breena's face. Her grin, and the joy in her eyes told him all he needed to know. She was lost in this moment with him, and they were both consumed with their love. He knew no matter what fate awaited him in DC, she would always be there for him, and there was nothing that he couldn't handle as long as she was by his side - today, and for the rest of their lives.
Title: Missing Him
Characters: Kensi, Callen
Song: I Loved Her First - Heartland
"Today's beautiful," Kensi said with a soft smile as she stepped beside Callen.
He nodded, and looked out to the dance floor. "She's the one that made it beautiful. I'd have been happy to sign some papers at city hall on our lunchbreak."
Kensi laughed. "You're such a romantic."
Callen shrugged. "It didn't matter to me."
Kensi nodded, and stared out onto the dance floor where Nell was twirling around, guided by her father. As she listened to the words of the song, she couldn't stop the tears that formed in her eyes.
I was enough for her not long ago/I was her number one/She told me so
"You ok, Kensi?" Callen asked softly, looking at her.
"I'll never have a wedding like this," she whispered. "I'll never do that."
I knew the love of a father runs deep/And I prayed that she'd find you someday/But it's still hard to give her away
As she blinked, she felt the tears start to roll down her face. Pressing a kiss to her forehead, Callen's arm wrapped around her shoulder and he pulled her close to his side.
"I miss my dad," she said softly.
Callen nodded. "I know."
"If I get married, I won't have this moment," she whispered.
"When you get married," Callen said, squeezing her close. "When, not if, but when, Sam and I both with have a special dance with you. I know we can't replace your dad, but we both love you like family."
"Thanks," she said, a soft smile forming on her lips.
"And we'll even threaten Deeks just like your dad would have."
Kensi shook her head. "Deeks?"
Callen nodded. "Stop fighting it Kensi. Because for as much as we think we're ok alone, once you've found that person, it's worth it. All the fear and the concerns, the worry and the pain. It's all worth it."
Kensi looked at Nell who was currently giggling with her father and back at Callen. "I'm glad you're happy."
"Thanks, Kensi," he said. "Now we just need to work on your happy ending."
Title: They Don't Know
Pairing: Tony/EJ
Song: Ours - Taylor Swift
"We need to end this," Tony said as he rolled out of EJ's bed, and pulled his pants from the floor.
"Why?" she asked, rolling over to look at him. "Because Gibbs doesn't approve? Or because Ziva doesn't?
"Because we're going to end up hurting each other," Tony said. "This isn't going to end well, so it's best that it ends sooner."
EJ laughed. "This is going to end fine. So what if other people don't like it. It's not their business and we're both consenting adults."
"EJ," He said shaking his head. "You don't get it."
"No, I don't," she answered. " There's always someone who disapproves, and they'll judge it like they know about me and you. But they don't know about us. They just think they know, and they're wrong, and it doesn't matter."
"I can't work with a team that doesn't trust me."
"Why don't they trust you?" she asked. "Because we're sharing a bed? Surely I'm not the first woman you've slept with since starting at NCIS. Why would they not trust you now?"
"They worry my loyalties are divided. Or that I may share something I shouldn't."
She laughed. "It's my case. I should know everything anyways. And you are not divided. You're the most loyal person I know, and you'd throw me to the wolves to save one of your team any day."
"No I wouldn't," he argued.
"I don't blame you," she said with a shrug. "I respect it actually. But if they don't see that, then they don't deserve you."
"I can't EJ." he said softly.
She looked up at him and pouted. "Then don't tomorrow. But stay tonight."
Title: Swagger
Characters: Sam, Callen, Deeks
Song: Whatever Makes you Feel Like a Rockstar - Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw
Swagger That's what they had on a Friday night. The last Friday night that Deeks would be a single man. Tomorrow his world would change, and this was his last night out as a single guy.
"We're dressed to kill," Deeks said with a grin as he stepped out of the limo. "We're rock stars tonight."
Sam shook his head. "I wouldn't go that far."
"Oh come on, it's his bachelor's party. For just one night, he can pretend he's as cool as us," Callen said with a grin.
" Juice in the goose?" Deeks asked with a grin. "Or coke in the crown?"
"He doesn't have swagger," Sam whispered to Callen.
"Hater's gonna hate," Deeks said with a grin.
"Are you drunk?" Sam asked.
The grin fell from Deeks's face and he shook his head. "Nope. Totally sober and scared out of my mind."
"You have nothing to be scared of," Callen said with a grin. "It's just Kensi."
"Hence the reason I'm so scared," Deeks said. "It's Kensi. And me. Together. For the rest of our lives."
"You'll be fine," Sam said. "You and Kensi are good together. She's better with you in her life."
"What if," Deeks shook his head, not finishing his thought.
"Take it from us," Callen said. "We're two happily married men. Marriage will change you, but it's a good thing. And you and Kensi are ready. You are ready. You know why?"
Deeks shook his head.
"Because you have swagger," Callen said with a grin.
Sam nodded. "It's all about the swagger."
Deeks grinned. "I hate you both."
"Haters gonna hate," Callen and Sam responded simultaneously, causing the three men to burst out laughing.
