Dear Diary:
Tonight was the worst night of my life. I was on a security detail for the Sec Nav when I saw someone in the area that wasn’t supposed to be there. A man was standing beside a vehicle, talking to the driver. I called to the man and he turned towards me with a gun in his hand. A shot was fired and I fired back at him. I hit him and the vehicle next to him sped off. I checked on the man; he was dead. I have never killed anyone before. Later, I found out he was a local police officer. This cannot possibly get any worse. My first time shooting someone and I kill a fellow law-enforcement officer.
Tony tried, in his juvenile way, to make me feel better; Ziva also tried to help. Even Gibbs tried, but this is not something I will soon forget. The investigation is only starting, too. The D.C. police are extremely upset about this, and I don’t blame them. They are sure I am a rookie who panicked and shot a good cop for no reason. I’m not sure I disagree with them...

Dear Dairy:
It was a long day today. I had to work all day and deal with the fact that Kate is gone. Forever. We are doing everything we can to find her killer, but he is so smart and so elusive. Sometimes I wonder if he will be the one who gets away.
Besides dealing with the loss of my best friend, I also have to deal with the new agent. She is from Mossad. That makes me suspicious right away. She also seems to be really pushy and overly self-confident. I disliked her instantly. That doesn’t usually happen. If she stays, I don’t think we will get along at all. She certainly can never take Kate’s place on the team. I don’t know what the director was thinking by bringing her here, especially now.

Dear Diary:
So, I have a new partner now. Deeks is actually still a member of the LAPD, but he’s working for us - as a liaison officer. He’s a whole lot different than anyone I’ve worked with before. He’s extremely laid back and it seems like nothing bothers him. He has a good sense of humor, but don’t tell him I said that. He’s also rather egotistical and I don’t want to add to that. Plus, he flirts a lot. I hope he doesn’t think that will work on me. Because it won’t.
He has a good record with the LAPD, but it looks like not many of his fellow officers actually like him much. I wonder why that is. I think we need to find out before we can totally trust him with our lives. But Hetty personally asked for him, so she has been keeping an eye on him for a while now and I trust her judgement more than I trust my own sometimes. We will see what we will see.
