Review:

This month’s Tony’s Tuesday Review is for season one, episode six of the original series, called Terminal Leave. I saw it for the first time today (Sunday March 24) and I knew I had to review it. This episode was packed with mystery, humor and explosions, which I always love in any episode.
Terminal Leave is about a Navy Commander on leave who is attacked and was saved from death only by a runaway shopping cart triggering a bomb in her car. NCIS comes to the scene, but they are not alone in wanting dibs to this case. The FBI wages a jurisdiction war against them, led by Agent Reyas, who clashes with Gibbs and the team throughout the episode. So while Abby works on trying to identify the commander’s attacker, the rest of the team’s duty is to protect the commander and her family. The kids are not too pleased with strangers following their every move. Tony’s attempt to bond with the son is frustrating for him, but hilarious for me as a viewer. Probie McGee gets into trouble with Gibbs trying to help out with that, as well. And we get a glimpse of how Tony and Kate would have been like if they actually had to live together in a space other than a victim’s house protecting her. Tony had no boundary issues back then, and it was hilarious to see how Kate reacted to that.
Throughout the episode, there is a slow build up to finding the culprit. Tony and Kate get a false alarm, and with that, we get a glimpse into what things are really like with the commander’s family. Let’s just say, they aren’t your model military family, but what family is perfect anyway, right?
Agent Reyas continues to fight Gibbs every step of the way, trying to take control of everything herself, but Gibbs insists on doing things his way and trying to get her to cooperate is like pulling teeth for him, which made me believe for just a moment that she set up the bomb that nearly took the commander’s life. She was secretive, stubborn, and cold. Then again, by now with watching this show, I look at everyone who could be the least suspicious.
Abby finally finds the killer after Tony and Kate face some turmoil once more, and there’s a surprising twist at the end after they find out who set up the bomb.
This is an episode that I think all NCIS lovers should check out for themselves if they haven’t already. It’s a solid episode, and I enjoyed it a lot.
