Title: The Past is Never Left in the Past

Summary: Today is not a good day for this…Especially since it’s their anniversary.  Anniversary of their divorce.

Disclaimer: I own nothing of NCIS: Los Angles

Today has just been a bad day all around.  First everyone arrives this morning and find that the bullpen has been switched around.  Next they are called to the home of Frank McCallen, who was murdered by the phantom.  Then the phantom takes Abby hostage and now the team is at Zuggler & Smith to try to find out who the phantom is.

“It is like the universe is out to get me today.  Today of all days we have to do this op and now I can’t stop thinking of the real thing.” Kensi thinks as she rides the elevator up to the office of Zuggler & Smith.  “No matter what we have been through we have always been professional at work.  We have left the past in the past and moved on with our lives.  It just happened to not work out for us.  How’s that for irony.”

She was shaken out of her thoughts when the elevator doors opened on her floor.  Taking a deep breath Kensi starts walking angerly down the hallway towards the place she wants to be.  As she enters the door way she looks at the photo of who she assumes is Zuggler & Smith on the left hand side of the room above the white chairs.

“Who’s better Zuggler or Smith?”  Kensi inquires of the receptionist while pointing at the photograph that she noticed earlier.

“For what ma’am?”  The receptionist responds politely.

“For getting every stinking penny” Kensi responds like a woman on a mission.

Laughing the receptionist responds “You’ve come to the right place.  Have a seat please.”

Kensi turns around and walks over to one of the chairs she spotted earlier mentally preparing herself for when Callen walks in.  Suddenly Kensi is hit with a memory for her own divorce.

It was a Sunday afternoon and she had the day off from work.  Kensi heads over to the law offices of Wolfram & Heart.  She has thought long and hard about her decision to end her marriage but he left her no choice.

He keeps lying to her and never wants to talk about himself.  She can understand that he doesn’t remember much about his past but enough is enough he could easily share present day stuff with her but he doesn’t seem to want to.  She also just wishes that he would stop lying to her.  She knows he is because of her training and she suspects him of having an affair and he thinks the same of her; never know that the most obvious reason is right in front of both of them.  Of course this is just one of the many reasons she decides to file for divorce.  This is just the next step because both of them have already moved out of their house, neither wanting to stay in the house alone and they will probably sell it and split the profits.

“Mrs. Blye, please come with me” Her lawyer calls her name, calling her back into his office.

Kensi gets up and follows her lawyer into his office.  She listens as he describes the process for filing for divorce as she follows him.

“Now I understand that you are here to file for divorce from a Mr. G. Callen?” Her lawyer asks.

“Yes…” Just as Kensi responds she is shaken out of her thoughts and thrown back into the present.  It seems that the memory lasted only a second but it seemed so much longer than that.

Callen swaggers on into the Zuggler & Smith office immediately seeing Kensi in the chair off to the left of the room.  He ends up stopping dead at the sight of Kensi in the chair.  “I don’t believe it” He says with a hint of annoyance in his tone.

“I was here first you weasel” Kensi responds with attitude in her voice.

“Uh-huh, so you’re going to spend my money to screw me out of my money?”  He responds with a touch of disbelief in his tone with a hint of anger.

“So hard you’re going to want to crawl back to the sewer you came from” Kensi snaps back with a glare on her face.

“All right, that’s it” Callen replies with an angry look on his face.

He stalks towards Kensi where she is sitting and grabs her purse but before he can take it she grabs on to it and won’t let go forcing Callen to grab her arm pulling her from the chair.

As she is being pulled up Kensi screams at Callen “Don’t touch me.  Give back my purse.”   When she is standing up she pulls back from Callen pulling her hands and bag away from him.  “Don’t touch me!!!”

The receptionist is just sitting behind the front counter with a shocked look on her face totally not believing the scene that she is witnessing.

Fed up Callen finally yells “Fine!!!  See if they take your business” while pointing at the receptionist.

Giving Callen one last look Kensi kind of chuckles at him and walks over to the front counter to possibly speak with the receptionist.

It seems that all that pent up emotion from their divorce is welling to the surface.  One of the reason he didn’t fight the divorce was that he thought she was having an affair.  She would never talk about work or really anything related to the topic of work and she was always working these long or weird hours.

Thinking of an argument on spot to keep the distraction going Callen yells at Kensi’s back “How are you going to pay the retainer?  I froze you out of all the accounts.  Or maybe they’ll take in-kind contributions, like you so freely gave to the pool guy.”  Not that they had a pool guy when they were married.

Kensi couldn’t believe that this is what he came up with.  Fed up with him she turns around and points her finger at him and states with attitude in her tone “Shut up!!!”

The receptionist finally gets some common sense into her head because she gets on her head set and calls security.  “Security to the front please.”

As the receptionist is calling security Callen just keep on rolling with the charade. “And the gardener, and the driver, and the personal trainer.  Know what?”

Now really mad Kensi screams, while pointing her finger at him “Shut up.  You shut up!!!”  Knowing that the flowers are right behind her she grabs them at throws the whole thing, vase and all, at Callen.

Now the receptionist is calling security over and over again hoping someone hurries it up and comes.  People are also coming out of offices to see what all the fuss is about.

Callen of course doesn’t get hit with the vase and flowers.  Caught up in the heat of the moment Callen runs up to Kensi and grabs her all the while saying “You are crazy woman.”

Fighting back Kensi has to remember she is a helpless girl who doesn’t know how to fight physically even though she wants to punch Callen’s lights out.  Screaming loudly she yells “No...No…No…Get off of me!!!”

Callen is restraining her and not letting her out of his arms shouting “You are crazy.  One crazy woman.  You know that?”

Still trying to get Callen to let her go she screams “Get off of me!!!”

Suddenly security is comes power walking over to them.  Three guys come in and two of them head over to Callen and Kensi each trying to pull them apart.  While the third guy, Sam heads toward the back offices telling people, to maintain his cover “It’s alright.  Go back into your offices.  It’s under control.”

Finally pulling them apart security escorts them from the building.  Once they are on the side walk they separate each going separate ways.  Deciding that they probably shouldn’t talk to each other right now, both knowing that this op brought up painful memories for both of them.  Kensi heads back to ops while Callen sticks around waiting for Sam.
