Character: Kensi
Today was my fifteenth birthday without my dad. At least when he was gone on a mission there was hope he would come back to me. When the MP’s told me he was dead, I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to keep going. I didn’t know if I wanted to live in a world that didn’t have my dad in it. But it’s been fifteen years and I’ve grown up a lot. I still miss him and I wish that he could be here now, but I think he would be proud of the person I have grown into.

Character: Deeks
I just don’t know how you get to the point in life where you don’t care that the people around you consider you easily replaceable or better yet don’t consider you at all. I laugh everything off because it’s easier than being pitied. I have had enough pity for three lifetimes. Just once I want to be someone’s first thought instead of everyone’s afterthought. I thought that it was different at NCIS. I guess I should just be happy that they don’t actively dislike me like at LAPD. I guess I just want someone to love me, not some alias.

Character: Callen
I worry that I am too close to my team. It happened so slowly that I didn’t realize I was coming to depend on them. I’m not used to depending on anyone. My whole life I have spent alone and after a while keeping my distance on purpose. Only to now I realise how ingrained each of them are in my life. I know that I will probably never have the answers to my past that I have searched for for so long. But knowing that my team who is also my family is here with me lessens the ache.

Character: Gibbs
They all have something in common. They have all been taken for granted too much in their short lives. They think that they hide it well and maybe from others they do, but to me it’s written plainly on their faces. ‘My kids’ haven’t had the easiest of lives, but I think that they each bring something wonderful to the team. Back when Kate started I thought I wanted them to learn to be like me. I’ve realized in the last few years that they have to make their own rules. They have to learn how to trust in themselves.

1. Tony - Tony looked around his apartment with new eyes. It did lack a lot. It was pretty barren and lifeless. He had learned to keep things simple and just used this as a place to sleep and change his clothes. Now he wondered if he should make it more of a home, a place he would like to spend time in. A place where he could bring a date. That was dangerous thinking, but maybe. Someday. Tony poured himself a glass of wine and Googled interior decorators. He found one that was highly recommended. He grabbed his phone and began dialing.

2. McGee - McGee pulled the page out of his typewriter. He inserted a new sheet and started typing again. This was chapter six of his second novel. He had learned a lot from his first novel. He was doing this one quite differently. He wasn't using people he knew. He was making up his own characters. McGee was finding it surprisingly enjoyable to be able to make the characters do what he wanted them to do, not follow an already set behavior pattern. It was also surprising how he liked being completely in charge of his characters and the plot. He smiled.

3. Palmer - Jimmy didn't like hockey, but his best friend from college did. Since Randy was only in town for three days, he had really wanted to see his team, the NY Islanders crush the Washington Capitals. So Jimmy was sitting beside Randy, drinking a watered-down beer, acting like he was having fun. For Randy's sake, he hoped the Islanders won. Otherwise, it would ruin the weekend. Randy was leaving tomorrow and Jimmy hadn't seen him since their class reunion two years ago. He realized how much he had missed his friend. Jimmy bumped Randy's shoulder and smiled. He was having fun.

4. Ducky - He was back. In his own morgue, performing another autopsy, teasing the correct story out of the man lying on his table. This is what made him get up in the morning. It's what he loved to do. For a while, after the bombing, after his heart attack, Ducky's world had tilted off its axis. Nothing was the way it should be, maybe it never would be again, he had thought. But after much hard work, blood, sweat and tears, his world had righted itself. Here he was, back where he belonged. He smiled. He knew how lucky he was.

5. Abby - Abby paused to look in the display window. That was an awesome skirt! Abby had heard about this new store from a friend, so she had come to check it out. She entered and began to browse, gradually working her way over to the rack that held that skirt. It was short and black with pleats. It also had two silver curb chains around it in a scallop design, one above the other. This was a great store. Next time she was bring her friend with her. Abby bought far more than she had planned, but it was worth it.

6. Hetty - As a young woman, Hetty had cherished calm, peace. But Chaos came looking for her. It claimed her, pulling her into its unrelenting grip. For years, Hetty had fought Chaos; finally learning to live with it swirling all around her. However, she never let it claim her soul. She sought ways to keep it at bay. Yoga, meditation, tai chi. All had helped and she had survived. However, in Japan she had learned this, the best way to find calm and peace, the tea ceremony. It was simple, elegant, soothing and chased Chaos away for a while. Just long enough.

7. Callen - G sat in the SUV next to Rodrigo, the middle man he was using to get to the head of the arms dealers. G's under cover name was Gregory Sokoloff. It had taken him four months to gain Rodrigo's trust and to get this meeting with the head of the organization. Callen could feel his nerves humming. It was a familiar feeling. It was always this way when he was under cover pretending to be someone he wasn't, someone with a background, a life, a family, a history. If you didn't have your own, this was the next best thing.

8. Deeks - Deeks jogged down the beach. It was almost six thirty. As the sunrise began to turn the sky to orange and purple, he slowed down and finally took a seat on a bench. Deeks sat there taking in the spectacle of the awesome colors of the sun rising slowly over the horizon. He liked to jog this early and enjoy the sunrise as often as possible. The beach had always been his safe haven, the place that kept the demons at bay. He had been doing this since he was a kid. He felt at peace here. He sighed contentedly.

9. Kensi - Kensi was beating the heavy bag hard. It had been a really bad week, she needed to let off some steam. On Monday, her coffee machine had bitten the dust. Tuesday, her cell phone died. She had to buy a new one. Wednesday her mother called and they had gotten into an argument. Kensi didn't come to see her often enough. Friday night she had gone and gotten drunk. Her hangover on Saturday was the worst. Now, on Sunday, here she was pounding out her frustrations. She was already feeling better, ready for whatever the new week brought her way.

10. Eric - Eric entered the club warily. He needed to expand his horizons, so here he was at a goth club. He was wearing shorts with a black button-down and black loafers. The noise was deafening. He headed for the bar. A girl came up to him and smiled. A very pretty girl, dressed all in black. He smiled back. She waved at the dance floor and Eric nodded. They went to dance. After the dance was over, she smiled and disappeared. Eric went back to the bar. Another attractive girl bought him a drink. Coming here had been a great idea.
